02.30 pm: More than weeds – Wild city dwellers and gap rebels

In the joints of pavements, in cracks in walls and on pebbled and gravelled surfaces, you come across them: the wonderful variety of wild city dwellers and “crack rebels”. They manage to grow without much soil, nutrients and water. For this reason alone, they deserve our attention and respect. But they are also important for biodiversity.
Roger Schauls, biologist of the Mouvement Ecologique, will take us into the world of these “city dwellers”. On a short walk around the Oekozenter Pafendall, we will learn more about them.
Learn more about why we should welcome this “wild growth” in our towns and villages. The tour is in Luxembourgish and is accessible to everyone and is also suitable for pushchairs.
Duration: 60 min.

04.00 pm: VISIT TO THE MANSFELD SITE….

HISTORY AND REFLECTIONS ON RESTORATION PLANNING

Clausen, which was mainly known for its gardens until the end of the 19th century, is still characterised by the layout of the palace and gardens of the governor and count Peter-Ernest von Mansfeld. The important remains of these buildings and the gardens have been archaeologically researched and evaluated since the beginning of the 21st century. The City of Luxembourg, as the owner of the site, has decided to make the listed site accessible to the public and to progressively restore the buildings. First initiatives in this sense have been taken. But what exactly is planned? What could the park and the abandoned buildings of the district
look like in the future? Information on the development history of the former palace area and food for thought on the planning process will be shared in a guided tour (Marc Schoellen, historian) on site.
