The European network PAN-Europe (Pesticide Action Network), of which the Mouvement Ecologique is a member, has recently published analyses of the pollution of groundwater and surface water in Europe by the persistent chemical TFA. TFA is a substance that is not degradable and remains in the environment, hence the name perpetual chemical. In contrast, it is highly soluble in water.

Three ministries – the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Housing and Regional Planning and the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Biodiversity – have recently presented a package of measures on behalf of the government: “building more and faster”.

The Mouvement Ecologique and its Regionale Uelzechtdall have recently lodged an objection as part of the public procedure for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the planned modernisation of a high-voltage line on the Aach – Bofferdange and Bofferdange – Bertrange route.

A public procedure for the preliminary draft of regulations for “arbres remarquables” – outstanding trees– took place recently. The aim is to give special protection status to trees that are characterised by their particular growth habit, diameter, age, species or connection to a historical event or personality, among other things, and to provide financial aid for their care.

In the municipality of Differdange, the local council is planning to convert a natural pond (étang de l’église) at Lasauvage into a fishing pond, which is provoking a great deal of discussion.

The Water Management Office (Administration de la gestion de l’eau – AGE) is celebrating its 20th anniversary, among other things with a new logo. The creation of such an office was a long-standing demand of the Mouvement Ecologique; it was undoubtedly absolutely necessary in view of the challenges in water management.

After an exciting discussion, the EU Environment Council finally adopted the Nature Restoration Law (NRL) today, taking the last step towards making this long-awaited proposal law. This result is a great victory for nature, climate protection, citizens and the future of Europe.

In his first speech on the state of the nation, the Prime Minister emphasized that the central responsibility of politics is to make decisions today to shape the future.
