The government wants to make progress in housing policy – but one of the first actions in the government project ‘Méi a méi séier bauen’ is to weaken the nature conservation law. The current draft of the law raises many questions.

Luxembourg is back on the winners’ podium. As the second country in the world, behind Qatar, Luxembourg will reach its “Overshoot Day” on 17 February.

Jens Beckert, Professor of Sociology and Director of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne, put these questions to the audience. The consequences of climate change – in the form of increasingly extreme weather events and the destabilisation of human livelihoods – are becoming more and more noticeable worldwide. Despite these visible consequences, our societies are failing to respond appropriately.

The Mouvement Ecologique is joining forces with ten organisations from various sectors in Luxembourg (architecture, heritage conservation, environment, etc.) to support the European citizens’ initiative “HouseEurope!”. The common objective is to collect at least 4,500 signatures in Luxembourg and 1 million at European level to initiate a decisive change and make renovation simpler, less expensive and more accessible than demolition in Luxembourg and throughout Europe.

The environmental problems associated with the use of pesticides are well known: the disappearance of species, water pollution, and so on. As are the negative effects on health linked to direct consumption or dispersion in the air.
