For greater pedestrian safety between localities

Following an announcement by the Administration des Ponts et Chaussées that the route of the N8 around motorway exit No. 4 of the A7 between Mersch and Reckange would be altered to improve road safety for motorists, the Regional section Mersch and surroundings once again contacted the administration.

The very busy section of the N8 (Route d’Arlon) between Reckange and Mersch, merely a few hundred metres long, is a life-threatening stretch for pedestrians. A white line painted on just one side of the road is supposed to ensure their safety. In reality, you’d have to be suicidal to venture onto this busy road with its motorway slip roads. Yet a proper pavement has existed beneath the motorway bridge ever since the bridge was built; it simply needs to be extended as far as the entrance to the village of Reckange.

The Regional section urges the local authority, when redesigning the junction, to make sure that safety for pedestrians is improved and to create a safe footpath along this route. During the day and especially at night, this route between Mersch railway station and Reckange is frequently used by pedestrians.
