The Water Management Office (Administration de la gestion de l’eau – AGE) is celebrating its 20th anniversary, among other things with a new logo. The creation of such an office was a long-standing demand of the Mouvement Ecologique; it was undoubtedly absolutely necessary in view of the challenges in water management.

After an exciting discussion, the EU Environment Council finally adopted the Nature Restoration Law (NRL) today, taking the last step towards making this long-awaited proposal law. This result is a great victory for nature, climate protection, citizens and the future of Europe.

The world is becoming increasingly unfair! A small group of super-rich people are amassing billion after billion, while 700 million people live in extreme poverty:

  • The wealth of the five richest men has doubled since 2020, while at the same time five billion people have become poorer;
  • We also know that the super-rich are fuelling the climate crisis with their excessive lifestyles, and poorer people in particular are already losing their livelihoods.

Things cannot go on like this! We need to take action together now before our society is destroyed by this injustice

Recently, the European Parliament adopted the so-called ‘right to repair’. The aim of this directive is to remove obstacles that make repairs more difficult. Luxembourg must also implement this directive in the next few years.

A study presented on Monday by the Pesticide Action Network Europe (PAN Europe) and the environmental organisation Global 2000 has revealed an alarming contamination of groundwater and rivers by the little-known and largely unregulated “perennial chemical” trifluoroacetic acid (TFA). The Mouvement Ecologique contributed water samples from Luxembourg to this study, which unfortunately are also part of the alarming statistics: All ground and surface waters tested in the study from ten EU countries (6 and 23 respectively) show house-high TFA levels.

As the level of detail in the election programmes of the various political parties varies greatly in the run-up to the EU elections, the Mouvement Ecologique decided not to carry out a general analysis of the programmes. Instead, specific questions were addressed to the parties in order to recognise different attitudes.
