Climate protection plan – exchange with the Environment Minister and the Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy
On the basis of the joint statement with suggestions for improvements to the Luxembourg Climate Social Plan, the Mouvement Ecologique and representatives of the Chamber of Employees and the trade unions were invited to a meeting with Environment Minister Serge Wilmes and Economy and Energy Minister Lex Delles.
During this meeting, the timeframe for finalising the plan and individual measures were presented and discussed. Some of these measures were directly related to the demands of the Mouvement Ecologique and the Chamber of Employees, which can be considered a success. It was positive that the ministries stated that funds would be made available for the implementation of the plan in addition to EU funds. It was also welcome that, during the meeting, the ministries took a concrete position on the proposals of Mouvement Ecologique and the trade unions and took up numerous suggestions.
Nevertheless, there is still a clear need for action, particularly with regard to underpinning the plan with concrete data and statistics, but also to make the measures more concrete. In this context, Mouvement Ecologique and the Chamber of Employees reiterated their demand that the target groups – i.e. households and small businesses threatened by energy poverty – be defined as precisely as possible and that the funds provided actually fulfil their objectives. The exchange with the ministers and their staff was constructive on these points, and further cooperation was agreed.
