EU Industry Summit: Call on the Government to Strongly Commit to Environmental and Climate Protection Instead of Deregulation
Ahead of the European discussions on industrial competitiveness, Mouvement Ecologique and ASTM, together with Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, call on the Luxembourg government to clearly support strong European environmental and climate regulations.
The current challenges facing European industry are real, but their causes do not lie in environmental regulations. Weakening these rules would create uncertainty for investors, increase dependence on fossil fuels, and expose businesses and citizens to long-term energy price volatility as well as to the impacts of the climate and biodiversity crises.
Instead of deregulation, what is needed is a forward-looking industrial policy based on investment, innovation and the development of markets for low-carbon and circular products. Clear, reliable and ambitious regulatory frameworks are essential to combine competitiveness, social justice and environmental responsibility.
Mouvement Ecologique and ASTM therefore urge the Luxembourg government to advocate at the European level for a robust and predictable legal framework that protects consumers and the environment and effectively supports industry in its transition – ensuring a sustainable and future-proof economy in Europe and beyond.
