Urgent call until September 10: Support the #HandsOffNature campaign!

Don’t let the EU weaken the protection of nature and the environment – Hands off!

The European Commission is planning to dramatically weaken important environmental protection measures – in nature, forest and water protection!

But until September 10, everyone has the chance to raise their voice and say clearly: I am against this!

Join Mouvement Ecologique, natur&ëmwelt, hundreds of NGOs and already more than 65,000 people across Europe: No to this deterioration! Yes to clean water, the preservation of our nature and natural resources!

All across Europe, the state of natural habitats is deteriorating, animals and plants are already under severe pressure. Here at home, ¾ of forest trees are sick, flower- and herb-rich meadows are becoming increasingly rare, and the list of extinct animal species keeps growing. Across Europe, air quality, water quality and the green spaces we rely on are also suffering.

And precisely now, when the consequences of the climate crisis are almost constantly visible and we are in the midst of a biodiversity crisis, the Commission wants to weaken the very laws that protect people and nature.

Unfortunately, this happens step by step, often hidden – under the labels of “simplification”, “cutting bureaucracy” and “pragmatism”. In truth, this means dismantling the most important protective measures, hard-won over decades – piece by piece. What is being “simplified” is nothing more than the path for those who want to profit at the expense of nature, our natural resources – and ultimately at the expense of all of us.

And all this was meant to happen quietly, during the summer lull, when most people are on vacation… Exactly then the European Commission launched its so-called “Call for Evidence” – a kind of public consultation – inviting companies, organizations and citizens to give their opinion on whether EU environmental laws should be weakened. Even though these laws are not explicitly named, it is well known that the Commission intends to use this consultation to push its deregulation agenda. Laws at risk include the EU deforestation regulation, the Water Framework Directive, the Habitats Directive, or even the Nature Restoration Law.

That’s why we are standing up, together with colleagues all over Europe, for strong environmental laws – and against their weakening.

Join us! Every voice counts.

Until September 10, 2025, use the form – supported by many European organizations – on this website to send your message to the European Commission and tell them you are against the weakening or abolition of environmental and nature protection laws.

You can simply use a prepared message, adapt it slightly, or of course write your own.

Reminder: It took decades of hard work by European conservation organizations, civil society and politicians to create these important laws, ensuring strong protection for people and nature. Don’t let them now be abolished behind closed doors. Their abolition will not make the problems disappear – quite the opposite!

Important: Your message will be publicly visible on the Commission’s website.
